SSP
Overview
THETA is responsible for developing a Sector Skills Plan, which is a four-year strategic document. The SSP represents the implementation framework for achieving the objectives and targets set out in the National Skills Development Strategy. The first Sector Skills Plans were for the period 2000 – 2004. Currently THETA has begun a process of developing the SSP document for the Period 2005 – 2009, this SSP document will be aligned to the National Skills Development Objectives and Targets, which is under review.
The Sector Skills Plan is a strategic vision of the SETA for the Skills development in the sector to be based on an assessment of the economic and development trends, and associated skills requirements.
Avenues for compiling data:
  • SETA commissioned research
  • Ongoing research and surveys conducted by sub sectors
  • Department of Labour research and other government research institutes
  • Focus groups from the sector
  • Department Of Labour Employment Services
  • Information from Labour Brokers and Recruitment Agencies
  • Analysis of WSP and Implementation Reports
The expected date of Submission of the SSP 2005 – 2009 to the Department of Labour is the 30 June 2004. When the Department of Labour has approved the THETA SSP document, then THETA will make it available to all stakeholders, through its Website, Call Centre and on request by stakeholders.
