SUCCESSFUL SAQA AUDIT
The recent SAQA audit was completed successfully and THETA is currently addressing identified development areas to ensure compliance.
Says ETQA manager Leone Whateley: “The audit provided an opportunity for benchmarking against the results and served as a guideline for the management of our own processes, as it indicated strengths on which to build and vulnerabilities to be addressed.”

IIP ON THE CARDS
THETA will launch an Investors in People (IIP) project during 2004 to assist 20 tourism enterprises to implement the standard.
The IIP standard sets a level of good practice for training and development of people to achieve business goals. It provides a framework for improving business performance and competitiveness through a planned approach to development.
The standard has proved its worth in 14 countries worldwide. Success stories may be viewed at www.investorsinpeople.co.uk
Interested companies should contact Vanessa Verster at vanessa@theta.org.za

SMMEs IN THE SPOTLIGHT
A number of exciting projects aimed at developing small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) will be launched during 2004.
The South African Tourism Institute (SATI) is to partner the Tourism Enterprise Project to deliver training to tourism SMMEs nationwide. SATI will develop a range of training modules on core business skills and operational skills. Delivery will start in July 2004.
Two ETQA department projects, to be sponsored by SATI, involve capacity building small providers towards accreditation, and assisting up to 1 000 trained assessors to convert their assessment qualifications to the required ETDP standard on NQF 5.
The skills development department is to contract 50 skills development facilitators (SDFs) countrywide to assist levy-paying SMMEs to participate in the skills development system.
